CA Easytrieve is a high-level report and data processing language from CA Technologies (formerly Computer Associates), designed primarily for IBM mainframe environments such as z/OS. It streamlines the creation of business reports, file transformations, and data extracts through clear, English-like syntax, reducing the amount of COBOL needed for similar tasks. Easytrieve lets developers define record layouts; read and write sequential and VSAM files; perform calculations; sort and summarize data; and produce formatted output with control breaks, subtotals, and totals. It operates mainly in batch, integrates with JCL and enterprise schedulers, and can interface with common mainframe data sources through available options. The Easytrieve Plus edition extends the core language with structured programming features and reusable procedures.
